MEET HP DEVELOPERS AT LUNCH IN THE CAMPGROUND

Register now for the HP Technology Forum and sign up for the developer luncheons. Encompass-sponsored “Meet the Developers” sessions will take place during the HP Technology Forum 2006, with a different focus daily on Tuesday and Wednesday. Each session will begin at approximately 12:15 p.m. and you must pre-register to guarantee your space. There are less than 100 spaces available per session, so sign up today.

Tuesday, September 19: HP Virtual Server Environment Panel: Meet the Experts

Wednesday, September 20: Engineering “clinics,” with round-table and one-on-one dialog opportunities with experts from HP’s BCS, ISS and Storage units.

Do you have a topic, idea or problem that you would like to discuss with other HP Technology Forum 2006 attendees? If so, submit a request form to schedule a Birds of a Feather (BOF) session at the User Group Campground. Act now to ensure inclusion within the searchable event online session scheduler. SUBMIT MOTIONS FOR MEMBER MEETING AT HP TECHNOLOGY FORUM

Encompass Members (only) can submit motions for the annual Member Meeting by Wednesday, September 6. See Encompass Policy 5.3.1..

Motions can be submitted by sending an e-mail to information@encompassUS.org. The Executive Committee will then consider the submissions for inclusion on the meeting agenda. Submitters will be notified of the status via e-mail. The original submitter or a designated representative must be present at the meeting to make the motion.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 20, at 2:00 p.m. in Room 310B. Encompass Members (only) are invited to attend the Encompass Member Meeting, where the President’s report and Secretary/Treasurer’s report will be presented.

NEW NETWORKING LUNCHEON

New this year, Encompass will facilitate networking at the HP Technology Forum Networking Luncheon. Attendees can use this opportunity to find peers with similar interests, and/or individuals from the same geographical region. The spirit of this luncheon aligns with Encompass’ goal to deliver programs that help you solve day-to-day challenges, while connecting you with other professionals who have been, or soon will be, in your shoes. New this year, Encompass Members will blog the HP Technology Forum. Blogs will be offered by Jim Becker on the attendee perspective and Chuck Ciesinski on the speaker perspective. You will be able to access the blogs on the Encompass web site when they become available.

NEW SIG: HP e3000 MIGRATE

The newest Encompass Special Interest Group (SIG), HP e3000 Migrate, officially launched on Wednesday, July 26 during a live one-hour webcast, jointly hosted by Encompass and HP. The webcast presented a large migration project case study and outlined the objectives for Encompass’ newest SIG.

Those deciding when and how to migrate off the HP e3000 can benefit from this SIG by learning from the experiences of those who are in the process of migrating or have successfully completed a system transition. Encompass Members and Associates are urged to join the SIGMIG-L list by visiting the Encompass web site.

HP-UX ADMIN SURVEY RESULTS PUBLISHED

The results of the HP-UX System Administration Survey are available on the Encompass web site.

The collective feedback of Encompass participants and the HP customer community at large will help shape the development of the HP-UX product line. Encompass and HP launched this survey in late April.

Encompass Member and survey respondent Tim Shoaf of HD Supply was the lucky winner of an HP iPod awarded in the survey raffle.

STUDENT AWARDED JOHN WISNIEWSKI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

IT student Erik Bennett was awarded $1,000 as the recipient of the 2006 Encompass - John Wisniewski Memorial Scholarship. Bennett is a full time student at San Juan College in Farmington, NM where he is majoring in computer science.

He was nominated by computer science professor, Timothy Reeves, for the scholarship that honors the life and work of longtime HP engineer and OpenVMS expert, John Wisniewski. Bennett is the third recipient of this scholarship.

PREPARE FOR INTEGRITY

The Encompass and DSPP co-hosted seminar, “Get Read for Integrity” event was held Thursday, August 24 at the HP facility in Greenbelt, Maryland. This free half-day event, jointly hosted by Encompass and the HP Developer & Solution Partner Program (DSPP), included presentations from Mark Silverberg, manager of HP’s Global Transition Consulting Team for Business Critical Systems, Kristy Ward representing DSPP, and Nina Buik and Jim Becker representing Encompass.
